School "Ivan Vazov", Mezdra, Bulgaria

„Ivan Vazov” School

One can hardly climb up, but the value is high. Above all buildings in my city my high school rises. Solar and windows tempt me from afar, and difficult lessons become easy by the warm eyes of my teachers. My school is a hearth that warmth the heart. My school is a home that gives me security. My school opens the book of life and every day writes one truth - the teachers, the students who have left a trace.

  • Description

The school was created in the 2009 as a result of the fusion of two formersecondary schools from Llerena: IES Fernando Robina and IES Cieza de León.

We are a Secondary and technical studies school. Our students are from 12 to 20 years old. The technical studies offered in our school are Commerce, Management and Business Administration, Automobile and Electronic Mechanic of Vehicles, Health Emergencies and Image for Diagnosis and Nuclear Medicine.

Thereare about 882 students distributed as it follows:

    • • Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO): 304
    • • High School (Bachillerato): 204
    • • Vocational training: 360
    • • Basic Vocational training: 12

IES de Llerena is the educational institution of reference in Llerena and in the surrounding villages since itincludes students from more than twenty surrounding populations.

Llerena is located in a rural areamore than 100 kilometres away from any large city: Seville, Badajoz, Córdoba, Mérida, etc.

This geographical isolation from an urban environment creates a feeling of great attachment to theirvillage, a little tendency to defend their social values above other cultures, a distrust in attitudes ofopenness to other cultures, to consider their localities as the only labour framework, ...

Therefore, we consider important to open our school not only at a regional level, but also nationally and internationally. For this reason, we participate in different projects that help to open horizons not only for our students but also for the rest of the educational community.

We believe European projects help students and in teachers in our school to get related with people from different backgrounds and to make contact to different forms of living, working and thinking. Definitely, they offer a great opportunity to open our school borders to the world.
